Why Kokrkáč?

Our apartment was named after one of the most beautiful dominants from the Giant mountains, according to the nearby peak Kotel, which is not only by the  locals called Kokrháč.

Kotel (Kokrkáč) is the dominant peak of the Western Giant Mountains and is 1435 meters above sea level, the highest point of the Liberec Region. The ridge follows the Lysá Mountain to the west and continues with a slight descending to Harrach’s stones. Impressive is the view from the upper Mísečky. On the southeastern slopes of Kotle, the glacier dug typical pots called Kotelní Jámy (Big and Small). Next in the valley was the moraine (a stone wall with a progressive glacier that later swept away), the only glacier lake on the Czech side of the Giant Mountains, which gradually grew. It is a Moss Pond (Mechové jezírko). Rare mountain flora (the Narcissus anemone, the proud hawk, the golden lily, etc.) fount it home here. On the northern slope lies Růženčina zahrádka – a preserved geometric figure from a balanced stone wall dating back to 1743.
